The beautiful Cooktown Orchid Dendrobium phalaenopsis is a lovely purple orchid. It grows on trunks and branches of trees. The flower clusters have up to ten flowers and grow on canes up to 4 cm long. The Cooktown Orchid was proclaimed as the floral emblem of Queensland in 1959, it is one of the most colourful orchard species in Australia .
