Attracting Butterflies to your garden

Updated: Aug 8, 2019

If you want to attract Butterflies to your garden it is important to plan for all four stages of a butterfly’s life cycle: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and adult. Plants where butterflies prefer to lay their eggs, and where caterpillars like to eat, are called Butterfly host plants. Below are some proven host plants you could chose to get your Butterfly garden started.

· Acacia (Wattles)

· Lomandra (Spiny-head Mat-rush)

· Pultenaea (Bush Peas)

· Hardenbergia violacea (Purple Coral Pea)

· Poa (Tussock grass)

· Scaevola (Purple Fan Flower)

Please remember to avoid the use of pesticides. A garden full of pesticide will not attract or sustain butterflies.
